Wall lamp by Alfred Homann for Louis Poulsen, grey metal, Denmark, 1970s

Wall lamp designed by Alfred Homann, manufactured by Louis Poulsen in the 1970s. This Danish designer, recognised for his minimalist approach to form, created a fixture that combines deliberate geometry with functional light diffusion. Grey metal lends the piece a subdued, industrial presence.

The construction brings together two distinct volumes: a rectangular base plate and a hemisphere curving upward. The flat, squared mounting surface serves as both an anchor point and a visual counterweight to the rounded shade. From this base rises a curved dome that directs light downward and partially to the sides. The proportions between elements are carefully calibrated — the solidity of the base balances the lighter, swept form of the shade. An E14 socket accommodates low-wattage bulbs, matching the intimate scale of the fixture.

Louis Poulsen shaped the Scandinavian philosophy of lighting design throughout the twentieth century. The firm's long-standing collaborations established principles that guided work with various designers: concealed light sources, soft tonal transitions, elimination of glare. Alfred Homann's design follows this tradition while offering his own interpretation — more geometric and austere, closer to the late-modernist aesthetic of the 1970s.

The modest dimensions and directional character of the light make this fixture suited to accent lighting. It works well above a bedside table, in a hallway, or as part of a multi-point arrangement over a dining table. A diameter of just under twenty-five centimetres allows installation in spaces where room is limited.

The lamp has been preserved in good condition. The metal surface shows scratches, abrasions and discolouration acquired through use over the decades. The Louis Poulsen signature confirms authentic production. The more noticeable traces of use are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible.
