Executive Desk with Nine Drawers and Pull-Out Surface, Teak Veneer, Nipu, Denmark, 1970s

Danish desk from the 1970s, manufactured by Nipu. This substantial piece combines the functionality of executive office furniture with the refined aesthetics of Scandinavian modernism. Teak veneer wraps the entire structure, lending it the warm, orange-toned character typical of Danish design from this period.

The construction features two drawer columns flanking a generous knee space. Each drawer is fitted with recessed plastic handles that maintain the clean lines of the fronts. Hidden beneath the main work surface are pull-out extensions — a practical solution that expands the working area when needed. The desk rests on low solid wood feet painted black, visually lifting the substantial form above the floor.

Danish furniture production in the 1970s built upon the functional design principles established in earlier decades while responding to growing demand for home office furniture. Manufacturers like Nipu created pieces that merged careful craftsmanship with thoughtful workspace organisation. Desks with comprehensive storage systems reflected a shifting work culture, as professional tasks increasingly moved from institutions into private studies.

Nine drawers of varying depths accommodate documents, stationery, and office essentials. The sixty-centimetre clearance between the drawer columns provides comfortable legroom during extended work sessions. The pull-out surface proves useful when spreading larger documents or as additional space for reference materials.

The piece is in good condition. The top and drawer fronts show minor scratches and small chips from regular use. Small losses have been professionally filled. The more noticeable traces of use are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible.
