Danish teak chest of drawers with six drawers and sculptural handles, 1960s

Danish chest of drawers with six drawers, produced during the 1960s. This piece embodies the Scandinavian approach to furniture design — clean functional form combined with the warmth of natural wood. Teak veneer covering the entire body gives the chest that distinctive mid-century elegance which needs no ornament or excessive detail.

The structure comprises six drawers arranged vertically, each fitted with a pair of organically shaped handles. Their soft, rounded form contrasts with the geometric simplicity of the facade, introducing a sculptural element without compromising the minimalist character of the whole. The top drawer features a lock for securing valuables. The chest stands on four tapered solid wood legs that visually lift the body above the floor and lend it a sense of lightness.

Danish furniture of the 1960s reached the peak of international acclaim by merging craft tradition with the ideal of democratic design. Chests of this type emerged from hundreds of small and medium-sized workshops competing on quality of execution and subtlety of proportion. Teak veneer, imported primarily from Southeast Asia, became the material that defined Scandinavian modernism — warm to the eye, durable, and capable of achieving perfectly smooth surfaces.

The chest will accommodate clothing, linens, documents, or everyday items. Six drawers of varying capacity allow contents to be organised by category. The eighty-centimetre width means the piece fits comfortably in a bedroom, hallway, or study.

Condition is good. The veneer surface shows minor scratches from use. Small chips are visible on the edges. Minor losses have been filled during restoration. The more noticeable traces of use are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible.
