Swedish sliding door cabinet in ash veneer, Scandinavian Modern, 1980s

A Swedish cabinet from the 1980s, shaped by the principles of Scandinavian modernism. Clean lines meet thoughtful functionality — qualities that defined Nordic design throughout the second half of the twentieth century. Light ash veneer and white sliding doors form a visually airy composition, set upon slender black legs.

The design centres on sliding doors that allow access to the interior without requiring clearance in front of the piece. Round wooden handles sit flush with the door surface, reinforcing the minimalist character. Inside, two adjustable shelves offer flexibility in organising stored items. Solid wood legs, painted black, lift the body off the floor, lending the cabinet a sense of lightness while visually expanding the surrounding space.

Swedish furniture of the 1980s carried forward a tradition of democratic design — well-proportioned, carefully made pieces at accessible price points. Ash, with its pale grain, suited the Scandinavian interior aesthetic where natural materials and daylight shared equal importance. Sliding fronts, a solution refined over decades, remained the standard for furniture intended for compact living spaces.

This cabinet works equally well in a living room, hallway, or bedroom. Its proportions suit placement along a wall as a sideboard or as a low media unit. Adjustable shelves accommodate documents and albums, electronics, tableware, or smaller household items with ease.

Condition is good. Minor scratches visible on the veneer surface, along with small scuffs on the edges. Minor losses have been filled. The more noticeable traces of use are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible.
