Scheurich ceramic floor vase with botanical relief pattern, Germany, 1970s

Ceramic vase by Scheurich from the 1970s, a distinctive example of West German decorative ceramics from this period. The raised botanical relief covering the entire surface gives the piece a sculptural presence that sets it apart from the smooth forms of earlier modernism.

The vase follows a classic proportion a slender body tapering upward with a clearly defined rim. The surface features an embossed pattern of stylized leaves or petals arranged in a rhythmic, repeating motif. The glazed ceramic maintains a uniform finish that accentuates the depth of the relief, creating subtle plays of light across the raised elements. The overall effect balances decorative richness with the functional simplicity of a vessel.

Scheurich ranked among the largest German producers of decorative ceramics in the second half of the twentieth century. The manufacturer became known for pieces associated with the Fat Lava movement ceramics characterized by thick, expressive glazes and heavily textured surfaces. The 1970s, however, also brought different stylistic directions, including a return to organic and botanical motifs that reflected growing interest in bringing nature into domestic spaces. This vase represents that tendency, combining craft tradition with contemporary taste.

Standing nearly forty-five centimeters tall, this floor vase accommodates tall grasses, dried flowers, or sprawling branches with ease. It works as a standalone decorative element in a living room, hallway, or entryway.

The vase remains in good condition with no significant flaws. The base bears the signature W. GERMANY SCHEURICH 291-45, confirming its origin from West German production of the 1970s.
