Pair of decorative ceramic vases with hand-painted roses, Art Deco style, European

A pair of decorative porcelain vases embodying the European ceramic tradition of the early twentieth century. These pieces marry classical floral elegance with the expressive forms characteristic of the Art Deco period, creating a set with commanding visual presence. White glazed ceramic provides the canvas for delicately painted roses in soft pink tones.

Both vases share the same compositional principle gently flaring bodies crowned by wide, undulating rims that define their silhouette. This distinctive wavy edge introduces movement and lightness, breaking away from the static nature of traditional vase forms. The painted roses are distributed across the surface in a considered rhythm, repeated on both pieces to create visual cohesion. The glaze lends a subtle lustre that enhances both the white ground and the pink floral accents.

The Art Deco movement, which shaped European design throughout the 1920s and 1930s, frequently drew upon naturalistic motifs while transforming them into bold decorative patterns. Ceramics of this era bridged the heritage of established porcelain manufactories with emerging tendencies toward geometric forms and more adventurous colour palettes. The undulating rims seen in this pair represent a hallmark of the period, introducing fluidity and dynamism to previously rigid vessel silhouettes.

With a diameter of twenty-eight centimetres and height of twenty-six centimetres, these vases possess considerable scale, suitable as focal pieces on a sideboard, console table, or as a centrepiece arrangement. The pair works equally well positioned symmetrically to frame a composition or grouped together as a single decorative statement.

Condition is assessed as good, with no significant flaws noted. The ceramic surface retains its glaze integrity, and the painted motifs remain clear and unworn.
