Oval decorative frame with putti motif, gold and copper tones, European Art Deco

Oval decorative frame with gilding and putti motif represents a refined example of European art déco craftsmanship. The piece features an ornate surface where golden tones intermingle with copper accents, creating the warm, distinguished patina characteristic of early twentieth-century decorative objects.

The composition centres on an oval form adorned with a figural decoration depicting putti winged child figures that rank among the most enduring motifs in European decorative arts. The relief treatment lends depth to the surface, while the contrasting gold and copper tones accentuate the plasticity of each detail. Standing twenty-two centimetres tall and fifteen centimetres wide, the compact dimensions allowed for meticulous attention to ornamental precision.

Art déco, which flourished across Europe during the interwar period, married geometric sensibility with references to classical iconography. Putti, present in Western art since the Renaissance, underwent subtle transformation in art déco interpretation retaining recognisable form while shedding Baroque softness in favour of crisper contours. European workshops specialising in decorative objects embraced this imagery, catering to bourgeois interiors that valued historical allusion tempered by modern restraint.

The frame functions equally well as a standalone decorative piece or as a setting for a miniature photograph or cameo. Its proportions suit placement on a chest of drawers, shelf, or dressing table, where the gilded surface catches and reflects ambient light.

Condition is assessed as good, with no significant flaws noted. The frame retains the integrity of its decoration and clear legibility of relief details throughout.
