Description

A three-seater sofa manufactured by Mogens Hansen in Denmark during the 1960s. The design brings together classic Scandinavian proportions with the refined elegance typical of the era — compact armrests, a clearly defined backrest line, and a muted colour palette create a piece that anchors a room without overwhelming it.

The construction rests on a solid beech frame supported by four legs finished in black paint. The seat and back consist of separate cushions with medium-firm filling, offering the kind of support suited to extended sitting. Cushion covers are removable, making care and maintenance more practical. The sides flare gently outward, lending visual lightness to what is a generously proportioned piece. Natural leather in a warm brown tone covers all upholstered surfaces, creating a cohesive and inviting whole.

Mogens Hansen ranks among the Danish manufacturers that built the international reputation of Scandinavian furniture making in the post-war decades. The company focused on upholstered pieces, emphasising material quality and precise craftsmanship. The 1960s marked the peak of Danish design influence worldwide — furniture from this period stood out for its considered functionality and the artisanal care that allowed pieces to serve for generations.

The sofa comfortably seats three. A width exceeding two metres demands space, but in return delivers a full-scale relaxation spot for a living room, study, or formal waiting area. The seat depth allows for comfortable reclining, while the height of nearly eighty centimetres ensures the piece sits well alongside other furnishings of traditional proportions.

The sofa shows clear signs of decades of use. The leather upholstery displays wear marks and discolouration characteristic of natural material that has served intensively over many years. Stains and minor scratches are also visible across the surface. The condition reflects a piece that has been well used while retaining its structural integrity. The more noticeable traces of use are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible.
