Description
A Danish chest of drawers from the 1950s, crafted from solid pine and painted in a bold green finish. The piece represents the practical side of Scandinavian design, which during that era combined honest craftsmanship with straightforward forms. The vivid colour sets it apart from the natural wood tones more commonly associated with the period.
The construction follows a classic three-drawer arrangement stacked vertically. Each drawer features a pair of round knobs alongside a central pull handle, offering comfortable grip when opening. The body rests on low turned legs in solid wood, painted to match the green of the case. A moulded top edge and gently curved bottom rail soften the otherwise geometric silhouette.
Danish furniture of the 1950s is often identified with minimalist design in natural timber, yet a parallel tradition of painted furniture persisted, drawing on Scandinavian folk craft heritage. Pine was chosen for its availability and workability, while colourful finishes brought life to interiors as post-war austerity gave way to bolder decorative choices.
Measuring ninety-five centimetres wide and nearly fifty centimetres deep, the chest suits a bedroom, hallway or living space. Three drawers provide storage for linens, documents or household items, while the striking colour makes the piece a distinctive accent in any interior.
The chest shows signs of decades of use: minor scratches and chips along the edges, worn areas in the paint layer, and some discolouration. The condition is described as well-worn, consistent with its age. The more noticeable traces of use are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible.
