Description

A set of four wine glasses crafted from iridescent glass, produced in Italy during the 1980s. The collection stands out through its distinctive combination of clear bowls with tinted golden-yellow stems, creating an optical effect characteristic of Italian decorative glassware from that era.

The slender silhouette of each stemmed glass pairs classical wine vessel proportions with a bold colour accent in the lower section. Clear bowls transition smoothly into intensely tinted stems whose iridescent surface shifts in hue depending on the angle of light. Standing twenty centimetres tall with a five-centimetre diameter, the glasses possess an elegant, elongated profile typical of Italian tableware design.

Italian glassmaking in the 1980s extended Venetian traditions in new directions, merging colouring techniques with postmodern aesthetics. Iridescence, achieved by applying metallic oxides to hot glass, became particularly fashionable as a means of introducing colour while preserving the material's transparency.

These glasses serve equally well for everyday use or as part of a formal table setting. The tinted stems introduce a vivid accent to any arrangement, while the clear bowls allow the colour of the wine to remain visible.

The set has been preserved in good condition with no significant flaws from use.
