Danish oak and ash veneered chest of drawers with extendable top, 1970s

A Danish chest of drawers from the 1970s, bearing the Danish Furniture Makers Control stamp, combines storage functionality with an extendable work surface. Oak and ash veneer gives the piece a warm, light appearance, while crescent-shaped metal handles create a subtle contrast between the wood and the cool finish of the hardware.

The construction centres on a compact body housing three drawers, raised on a solid wood base. The frame takes an open rectangular form that lifts the cabinet off the floor while ensuring stability. The top surface features a pull-out mechanism. The drawer fronts maintain a minimalist character: clean divisions without decorative elements, with handles mounted in pairs at each level.

The Danish Furniture Makers Control stamp confirms that this piece passed the rigorous quality inspection system established in Denmark during the 1950s. Created by the Federation of Danish Furniture Manufacturers, this certification guaranteed that products met structural durability standards and craft quality benchmarks. The presence of this mark indicates adherence to the production culture that established Danish furniture as a byword for quality across international markets.

This chest of drawers serves equally well in a bedroom, study, or living room. The three drawers accommodate linens, documents, or accessories. At under fifty centimetres deep, the piece fits comfortably even in narrower spaces.

The condition is rated as good. The surfaces show minor scratches and small chips consistent with use, and slight losses have been filled during restoration. The more noticeable traces of use are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible.
