Description
A Danish chest of drawers from the 1960s, representing the Scandinavian approach to everyday furniture. Teak veneer covers the entire body, lending it the warm, distinctive character of the era, while the slender silhouette raised on wooden legs maintains a sense of lightness despite the solid construction.
The design follows a classic arrangement of drawers stacked vertically, each fitted with twin handles placed symmetrically across the front. The top drawer features a lock, allowing its contents to be secured. Rounded edges soften the rectangular form of the top, and tapered legs lift the piece above the floor, visually reducing its weight. The gently curved handles provide a subtle decorative touch without overwhelming the minimalist character of the design.
The 1960s marked the golden age of Danish furniture production, responding to changing lifestyles — smaller apartments and growing demand for pieces that were both functional and beautiful. Teak, imported from Southeast Asia, became the defining material of Scandinavian design during this decade. Its warm tone and expressive grain allowed manufacturers to create furniture that combined craft quality with accessible form, bringing good design into ordinary homes.
With a width of just under seventy centimetres, this chest of drawers suits bedrooms, hallways, or home offices alike. Six drawers provide organised storage for clothing, documents, or smaller belongings, while the lockable top drawer keeps valuables secure.
The piece is in good condition, showing minor scratches and small scuffs consistent with decades of use. Minor losses have been filled during restoration. The more noticeable traces of use are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible.
