Description

Danish lounge chair from the 1960s, representing the mature period of Scandinavian modernism. The design combines the characteristic elegance of Danish Modern with a refined detail — wooden inserts set into the armrests provide a subtle accent that distinguishes this piece from typical solutions of the era. The high backrest and flowing silhouette create an impression of comfort before one even takes a seat.

The construction rests on slender solid wood legs that lend lightness to the substantial form. The backrest flows seamlessly into the armrests, creating an enclosed shape that embraces the sitter. Wooden elements inset into the upholstered armrest surfaces serve a practical purpose — protecting the fabric where hands naturally rest — while introducing the material contrast typical of Danish design. The nearly square seat proportions allow freedom to shift position.

The 1960s brought Danish furniture international recognition and enabled experimentation with form. Designers moved away from the stark functionality of early modernism toward pieces meant not only to serve but to provide pleasure in the company of a well-designed object. A lounge chair from this period often formed the focal point of a living room — a place for reading, conversation, relaxation. The combination of an upholstered body with wood elements demonstrates how craft traditions permeated industrial production.

This chair works beautifully as the primary relaxation spot in a living room or study. The seat height of thirty-six centimetres and deep seat encourage unwinding in a semi-reclined position. The width of nearly eighty centimetres allows comfortable arm placement without feeling confined.

The piece has undergone comprehensive restoration including new upholstery and foam. The new structural fabric in beige maintains the character of the period. Minor scratches visible on the wooden elements attest to the originality of the construction.
