Italian cocktail stemmed glasses with green stem, decorative glass from the 1970s

A set of Italian cocktail glasses from the 1970s, distinguished by a vivid green stem encased within clear glass. These pieces exemplify the decorative yet functional glassware that defined Italian design during this expressive decade.

The form follows a classic stemware proportion, balancing a generous bowl against a slender stem set upon a stable foot. The green core runs through the entire height of the stem, creating a striking contrast with the transparent bowl and base. Smooth walls and a gently flared rim lend the glasses an air of lightness, while the more substantial foot provides stability. The transition between the coloured stem and clear elements appears seamless, executed without visible joining lines.

Italian glassmaking in the 1970s underwent a period of bold formal experimentation. The country's long-established glass tradition found new expression through explorations of colour and simplified form. Manufacturers combined artisanal techniques with contemporary sensibilities, producing everyday objects that doubled as decorative accents. Playing with contrasts between coloured and clear glass became a favoured device among designers of the era, achieving visual impact without excessive ornamentation.

These stemmed glasses suit cocktails, aperitifs, or frozen desserts equally well. Standing twenty-three centimetres tall with a twelve-centimetre diameter bowl, they work for both daily use and special occasions. The green accent adds a lively touch to any table setting and invites conversation.

The set remains in good condition with no significant flaws. The glass is clean and undamaged, ready for continued enjoyment.
