Brass female figurine in Art Deco style with floral motifs, European decorative art

A brass female figurine in the Art Deco style, merging geometric stylisation of the human form with lush botanical motifs rooted in Art Nouveau tradition. The brown patina lends the piece a refined, antique quality while accentuating the sculptural depth and intricate detailing throughout the composition.

The female figure emerges from an elaborate arrangement of foliage, forming an inseparable unity with the surrounding plant forms. Art Nouveau leaves and stems envelop the silhouette, creating an organic, almost sculptural dimension. The proportions maintain a careful balance between the slender elegance of the figure and the decorative richness of the botanical elements that embrace it. Brass as a medium allowed for precise rendering of both the soft folds of drapery and the delicate textures of the foliage. The entire composition rests on a sturdy base that forms an integral part of the design.

The turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries brought a profound fascination with nature as a source of decorative forms. Art Nouveau drew inspiration from the organic lines of plants and flowers, while the subsequent Art Deco movement refined these motifs, introducing greater geometric order while preserving their decorative abundance. Figurines combining the human form with botanical elements became a favoured subject in European decorative arts of this era. Brass enabled production at scale whilst maintaining the appearance of sculptural craftsmanship, making such pieces accessible to a broader audience.

This figurine works beautifully as a standalone decorative accent on a sideboard, shelf or in a display cabinet. Standing twenty-four centimetres tall, it commands attention in intimate arrangements without overwhelming the surrounding space. The brown colouration harmonises equally well with warm wood tones and cooler contemporary interiors.

Good condition. The figurine shows no significant flaws.
