Description
A female figure in the Art Deco style, depicting a nude on a geometric pedestal. This sculpture dates from the 1920s or 1930s and exemplifies the aesthetic sensibility of the period — combining a fascination with the human form and rigorous architectural structure. The brown coloration enhances the elegance of the entire composition.
The female form is captured in a dynamic pose, her body arched and arms reaching upward. This sense of movement and tension contrasts with the static, stepped base beneath her. The proportions follow the conventions of the era an elongated silhouette with flowing yet decisive lines. The surface maintains a uniform texture that unifies the figure with its plinth, creating a cohesive sculptural whole.
Art Deco flourished in Europe between the world wars, blending influences from Cubism, Futurism, and non-Western art with a celebration of modernity and luxury. Female nudes ranked among the movement's favoured subjects the human body treated as decorative form, subordinated to geometric harmony. Dancers, gymnastic poses, and acrobatic arrangements symbolised emancipation, energy, and the optimism of the age. Figures of this type adorned bourgeois interiors, studies, and salons, expressing the modern taste of their owners.
This sculpture works as a standalone decorative piece or as the centrepiece of a collector's display. Its dimensions seventeen centimetres in both height and width, with a depth of ten centimetres make it suitable for a sideboard, bookshelf, or glazed cabinet.
Condition is good with no significant flaws. The figure is ready for display without need for conservation work.
