The low, horizontal silhouette draws from Japanese floor-sitting aesthetics while remaining firmly rooted in the Scandinavian tradition of functional minimalism. Teak veneer covering the top lends the piece a warm, natural character emblematic of Nordic design from that decade.

The construction centres on a rectangular top supported by four square-section legs. The proportions — considerable width paired with minimal height — create a distinctive, grounded profile. Black metal legs contrast with the warm tone of the teak veneer, accentuating the geometric nature of the design. Despite the solid furniture board core, the overall impression remains visually light.

Sorø Terminalborde operated within the late Scandinavian modernist movement, a period when the established mid-century aesthetic evolved toward more varied forms. The 1980s saw designers combining proven materials — teak and metal — with bolder proportions. Experimentation with furniture height became common as creators sought alternatives to conventional coffee table formats.
