Description
Royal Copenhagen 1981 Annual Mug, Denmark. Designed by Ivan Weiss.
A collector’s mug from the legendary Annual Mug series by the Danish manufacturer Royal Copenhagen – one of Europe’s leading porcelain manufacturers, in operation since 1775. The 1981 model was designed by Ivan Weiss – the artist responsible for many of the series’ distinctive decorations at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s, when Royal Copenhagen’s classic aesthetic began to evolve into a more relaxed, graphic form. The motif of stylised branches and organic forms in shades of cobalt and green perfectly captures the spirit of Scandinavian design – minimalist, yet full of life and the rhythm of nature. The decoration has a slightly watercolour-like quality, lending the whole piece a unique lightness and elegance. The annual series was produced exclusively in a given year – each design appeared only once and was not reissued, making these mugs genuine collector’s items. This is no longer merely a functional object – it is a small example of 1980s design that fits perfectly both in a collection and as a single, sophisticated accent in an interior.
Condition: The item is in its original condition and may have minor scratches and normal signs of wear.
