Description
A collectable Royal Copenhagen mug from 1979, designed by Ivan Weiss.
A collectable mug from Royal Copenhagen’s prestigious annual series, produced exclusively in a single year – this piece dates from 1979 and was designed by Ivan Weiss. The decoration is based on an organic, almost ornamental floral motif, rendered in deep shades of cobalt with subtle transitions of blue and bright porcelain white. The relief structure and hand-painted nature of the decoration give it a distinct three-dimensional quality – it is no longer merely a graphic design, but a form built from light and texture. The Annual Mug series is one of the most recognisable designs in Danish porcelain – each year was entrusted to a different artist, creating limited-edition collectibles that today serve as a record of the aesthetics of successive decades of design. The 1979 model stands out for its more organic, soft design – closer to nature than geometry – making it one of the most visually interesting variants in the series. Excellent both as a functional object and as a deliberate addition to a collection of 1970s Scandinavian ceramics.
Condition: preserved in its original condition, may show minor signs of wear.
