Oak sideboard by Henning Kjærnulf, Danish Modern design from the 1960s

A sideboard designed by Henning Kjærnulf, produced in Denmark during the 1960s. The piece merges traditional Scandinavian craftsmanship with modernist form — substantial yet balanced in its proportions, with clearly articulated structure and carefully executed details.

The cabinet rests on a sturdy frame that connects the legs with stretchers at the base, creating a stable foundation. Three doors with classic stile-and-panel construction conceal storage space with adjustable shelving, while a row of three drawers runs beneath them. The fronts lock with a key, allowing the contents to be secured. The top extends beyond the body of the cabinet, emphasising the horizontal character of the form. Oak veneer covers the entire piece, lending it a warm, unified tone. Handles and escutcheons provide discreet accents against the calm surfaces of the fronts.

Henning Kjærnulf belongs to the generation of Danish designers who advanced the tradition of dining furniture in the 1960s. His work stood out for its clean volumes and decisively drawn lines, crafted primarily in teak and oak. This sideboard reflects the Danish Modern ethos that combined modernist functionality with respect for natural materials and artisanal precision — an approach that earned Danish furniture international acclaim.

At nearly one hundred and eighty centimetres wide, the sideboard provides ample room for tableware, linens and everyday items. Lockable compartments keep contents dust-free, while the drawers offer quick access to smaller belongings. The piece suits a dining room, living area or hallway equally well.

Condition is rated as good. Minor scratches and small chips are visible on the surfaces, and slight losses have been filled. A key is included. The more noticeable traces of use are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible.
