Description
Pig-shaped money box, navy blue glazed ceramic, West Germany – minimalist design, 1970s.
A unique ceramic money box from West Germany, finished in a deep, rich shade of navy blue. This piece exemplifies the approach to form characteristic of post-war West German ceramics – simplification, a focus on shape and colour, and a move away from ornamentation in favour of a clean, modern aesthetic. Ceramics referred to as ‘West German pottery’ cover production from 1949 to 1990 and are today prized by collectors for their variety of forms and distinctive glazes. The smooth, glossy glaze and the synthetic, almost geometric silhouette give the object the character of a small functional sculpture.
