Description

Three-seater sofa designed by Gunnar Myrstrand, manufactured by Swedish company Källemo in the 1960s. The piece combines a substantial rosewood frame with original natural leather upholstery, creating a design of distinctive Scandinavian character. The proportions of the form and the way the cushions rest within the wooden structure give this sofa an elegance typical of the finest furniture design from that era.

The construction is based on a solid hardwood frame, veneered in rosewood and finished with lacquer. The frame creates a clear outline around the seating area, embracing it on three sides while forming generous armrests. The legs extend directly from the side posts, lending the piece a compact, architectural presence. The upholstery consists of three backrest cushions and a connected seat featuring characteristic button tufting, which serves both decorative purposes and helps stabilise the leather padding.

Gunnar Myrstrand belongs to a generation of Swedish designers who, during the 1960s, developed furniture that combined craft-level quality with modern form. By producing his designs, Källemo contributed to a Swedish design tradition that valued noble materials and precision of execution. The choice of rosewood paired with natural leather reflects an approach typical of Scandinavian modernism — allowing materials to speak for themselves without unnecessary ornamentation.

The sofa accommodates three people comfortably, with a soft seat nearly fifty centimetres deep providing relaxed support. It suits a living room, study, or reception area where classic form and natural materials create an atmosphere of calm refinement.

The piece is in good condition with visible signs of use: minor scratches and small chips on the wooden frame, along with wear marks and discolouration on the leather upholstery. These traces speak to the authenticity of the piece and its decades of history. The more noticeable traces of use are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible.
