Modular shelving designed by Kai Kristiansen, manufactured in Denmark during the 1960s. The system combines teak veneer with black wall-mounted rails, creating a composition characteristic of Danish design — warm wood set against a graphic metal structure. This particular set includes seven shelves and two cabinets, one fitted with drawers and the other with hinged doors.

The construction relies on four vertical rails mounted to the wall, forming the structural backbone of the entire system. Suspended from these rails are teak-veneered elements: shelves with a depth of twenty-four centimetres and deeper cabinets intended for storage. The drawer unit features handles recessed flush with the front panels — a detail typical of Kristiansen's work that emphasises the minimalist character while revealing the joinery logic behind the design. The presented configuration represents just one possible arrangement, as all components can be repositioned at different heights and the system allows for expansion with additional modules.

Kai Kristiansen belongs to the generation of Danish designers shaped by the craft tradition of Kaare Klint's school. Unlike creators who designed exclusively for prestigious workshops, Kristiansen collaborated with numerous Danish manufacturers, ensuring his furniture reached ordinary Scandinavian households rather than remaining gallery pieces. Wall-mounted systems emerged as a response to post-war living conditions — limited residential space demanded furniture that was visually light, adaptable and functional. Economy of form combined with thoughtful construction became the defining features of his work.

The shelving unit suits both living rooms and office environments. Open shelves measuring eighty-five centimetres in width accommodate books and albums, while enclosed modules conceal documents and smaller items. Cabinet depths ranging from thirty-two to forty-five centimetres provide space for binders and larger objects.

The unit has been preserved in good condition. Minor scratches and small chips are visible from use, and slight losses have been filled. The more noticeable traces of use are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible.
