Rosewood veneered desk by Ico and Luisa Parisi for MIM Roma, Italy, 1970s

Executive desk designed by Ico and Luisa Parisi, manufactured by MIM Roma in the 1970s. This Italian design duo, active since the 1940s, developed a distinctive approach characterised by slender frames and elevated forms. The present example represents their mature period, when refined proportions and visual lightness had become hallmarks of their furniture.

The structure plays on the contrast between an expansive rosewood-veneered top and a delicate metal frame. The legs lift the substantial desktop without weighing down the composition, creating the floating effect characteristic of Parisi designs. Drawers are integrated into one side while the opposite end remains open, achieving functional asymmetry within a visually balanced form. Drawer fronts share the same veneer as the top, and a finished back panel gives the piece a presentable appearance from every angle.

Italian design of the 1970s built upon the achievements of earlier decades while developing its own vocabulary of executive furniture. MIM Roma, whose mark appears on this piece, realised projects by leading Italian designers with careful craftsmanship. Rosewood veneer, prized at the time for its depth of colour and pronounced grain, lent these desks a distinguished presence suited to professional settings.

With a width of two hundred ten centimetres, the desk provides a generous work surface alongside two lockable drawers. The freestanding construction, finished on all sides, allows placement in the centre of a room as an organising element within a study or home office.

Condition is good. The surfaces show minor scratches and small chips. Minor losses have been filled. The key is not included. The more noticeable traces of use are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible.

May need to dismantle the desk for transport. The individual parts must be reassembled upon delivery.
