Description

The Danish shelving unit from the 1970s, veneered in teak, represents a design approach in which a compact piece of furniture was intended to fulfil more than one function. The combination of open shelves with a closed bar compartment creates a compact form that merges display with discreet storage. The warm tone of the teak veneer paired with the black legs builds a contrast characteristic of Danish modernism of that decade.

The structure is based on a rectangular body set on four legs made of solid, painted wood. The open section includes an adjustable shelf, allowing the height of stored items to be customised. The closed section features a bar compartment opened by a small recessed pull integrated into the front surface. The entire piece is veneered in teak, maintaining visual consistency across all elements. With a depth of less than thirty centimetres, the unit does not dominate the space while still offering practical capacity.

Danish furniture of the 1970s developed in the shadow of the major names of the previous decade, yet it was precisely then that designs aimed at everyday use in small apartments emerged. Manufacturers sought solutions combining affordability with quality craftsmanship, opting for furniture board covered with veneer instead of solid wood. This did not mean abandoning aesthetics — teak veneer retained its warm colour and characteristic grain, while careful finishing ensured durability for years. Furniture of this generation found its way into the homes of young families and compact interiors, where the functionality of every centimetre mattered.

The shelving unit works well in a living room or study. The open shelves can hold books, albums, or small ceramics, while the closed section can store documents or everyday items. Its slender silhouette allows it to be placed against a wall without taking up valuable floor space.

The condition is assessed as good. The surface shows minor scratches and small scuffs resulting from use. Small losses have been filled. Larger signs of wear are also shown in the photos to present the actual condition of the piece as accurately as possible.
