Danish teak sideboard from the 1970s with sliding doors and adjustable shelves

A Danish sideboard from the 1970s, representing the mature phase of Scandinavian modernism. Teak veneer in a warm brown tone gives it the character typical of Danish furniture from this period — calm, functional, and free of unnecessary ornamentation.

The construction is based on an elongated horizontal body set on four tapered solid wood legs painted black. The contrast between the dark base and the warm teak shade emphasises the lightness of the entire form — the piece does not overwhelm, despite offering considerable storage space. Three sliding doors provide access to the interior without requiring clearance for opening panels. Inside, adjustable shelves allow the layout to be adapted to current needs.

The 1970s brought a certain shift in tone to Danish furniture design. While the previous decade celebrated craftsmanship mastery and solid noble wood species, the seventies moved the emphasis towards production rationalisation and accessibility. Teak veneer on particle board became the standard that allowed the aesthetic of Danish design to be preserved at lower manufacturing costs. This was not, however, a compromise in quality — constructions from this period are distinguished by well-considered details and solid workmanship, making them functionally durable for decades to come.

This sideboard works well as a TV stand in the living room or as a buffet in the dining area. The width of one hundred sixty-five centimetres allows it to be placed against a longer wall, where it can accommodate AV equipment, tableware, or a vinyl record collection. The modest depth does not take too much space from the room, while the height of sixty-eight centimetres places the top at a comfortable level.

The condition is rated as good. The surface shows minor scratches and minor chips from use. Small losses have been filled during restoration. The more noticeable traces of use are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible.
