Danish brass pendant lamp, industrial shade with Scandinavian design, 1960s

A brass pendant lamp from Denmark, dating to the 1960s. The shade features a distinctive flared form that blends Scandinavian minimalism with industrial aesthetics. The warm tone of the brass and its visible patina give the lamp an authentic character of a genuine period piece.

The shade takes the form of a shallow cone with a pronounced lower rim and a tapering top that transitions into a cylindrical mounting. The proportions are carefully balanced — the generous diameter ensures broad light distribution, while the relatively low profile keeps the lamp from overwhelming the space. The piece hangs from a chain that allows height adjustment during installation. The construction uses an E27 socket, a universal and widely available standard.

Danish lighting design of the 1960s took a distinctive approach to materials. While designers working with glass or aluminium focused primarily on form and light diffusion, brass demanded different considerations — its visual weight called for simpler shapes, and its natural tendency to develop patina became part of the design rather than a flaw. Lamps from this period often found their way into workshop or office interiors, where industrial aesthetics complemented functionality.

The maximum suspension length of eighty centimetres allows the height to be adjusted to suit different room configurations. Condition is good. The surface shows scratches, wear marks, and discolouration as a natural consequence of decades of use. The brass has developed a patina that emphasises the age of the piece.
