Description

A Danish display cabinet from the 1970s that brings together two worlds of Scandinavian design. The warm shade of the veneer in the upper section meets the dark, graphite lower section, creating a striking contrast emphasised by decorative fittings. This is a piece of furniture with a distinct character, far from neutral — designed to attract attention.

The design is based on a simple division of functions. The open compartment at the top serves as a display area, where light reaches the displayed items freely. The closed cabinet below, fitted with a pair of glass doors, conceals what is to remain out of sight. The whole piece rests on four slanted legs made of solid wood, painted black, which lend the structure a sense of lightness and lift it off the floor. Adjustable shelves inside allow the layout to be adapted to the items being stored.

The 1970s in Danish furniture design were a period of experimentation with colour and materials. Designers moved away from the uniformity of light teak in favour of bolder combinations, drawing inspiration from both Scandinavian tradition and Italian design. Contrasting finishes and metallic accents were part of the quest for a new design language — a piece of furniture that is not only functional but also serves as a decorative element in the interior.

This display cabinet will work well in the living room as a place to display books, ceramics and souvenirs that are worth showing to guests. The closed section can hold photo albums, documents or small items that you do not wish to display. Its compact dimensions mean it can be placed even in smaller rooms, against a wall or as a space-dividing feature.

The piece is in good condition, showing natural signs of wear from the past half-century. There are minor scratches on the veneer surface and slight scuffs on the edges. Minor chips have been professionally repaired during restoration. More significant signs of wear are also shown in the photographs to give the most accurate representation of the piece’s actual condition.
