Description

A piggy bank with a floral motif, Portuguese ceramics – hand-painted, 1970s.

A unique ceramic money box from Portugal – a country with a strong tradition of hand-decorated ceramics, where each piece bears the marks of the craftsman’s individual work. A model with a classic, elongated pig shape, decorated with a painted floral motif in shades of pink and green. The hand-painted decoration, with visible brushstrokes, lends the piece a lightness and an authentic, almost illustrative character – typical of Portuguese functional ceramics from the second half of the 20th century. The white, glazed background emphasises the intensity of the colours and creates an elegant contrast with the subtle details of the form. The whole piece has a distinctly decorative, ‘soft’ character – it is closer to a small sculpture than a typical functional object. Such money boxes served not only a practical but also an aesthetic function – they were an element of interior design, often found in homes as a small decorative accent and a symbol of saving.

Condition: The item is in its original condition and may have minor scratches and normal signs of wear.
