Description
A Royal Copenhagen collector’s mug from 1978, designed by Bo Kristiansen.
A collector’s mug from Royal Copenhagen’s iconic annual series – produced exclusively in a single year, in this case 1978, based on a design by Bo Kristiansen. The striking, undulating composition in shades of deep red, black and off-white creates a dynamic, almost graphic rhythm. The decoration has a strong, organic character – it resembles a fluid painterly form, typical of Danish design of the late 1970s, where a functional object becomes a vehicle for distinct expression. The relief structure of the surface further interacts with light, giving the mug a sculptural depth – this is not a flat print, but a deliberately constructed form. The Annual Mug series consists of limited editions – each year features a different design, a different artist and a different interpretation of the era’s aesthetics. As a result, each piece now functions as a separate collector’s item. The 1978 model stands out for its stronger contrast and more graphic language than earlier years – it is closer to art than to classic functional ceramics. Excellent as a single accent in an interior or as part of a larger collection of 1970s Scandinavian ceramics.
Condition: The item is in its original condition and may have minor scratches and normal signs of wear.
